Minimalist Copper Stacking Ring
These stacking style rings are all individually handmade using 14 gauge raw copper that is carefully measured, cut, filed and sanded prior to being soldered to form the ring. Once the ends are soldered together, they are cleaned of any oxides and fire scale from the soldering process. After cleaning, each ring is put onto the steel ring mandrel for final shaping and to be given a hammered texture finish. After I have finished hammered the ring, I use my rotary tool with a brass bristle brush followed by a polish cloth wheel to give the copper a shine.
Copper can oxidize and turn green and leave some green behind on the skin if worn for a long period of time being exposed to sweat or other moisture. This is a normal chemical reaction to the sweat or water from washing your hands. It is not harmful to you and will go away. If your skin becomes itchy or swollen, then it could be an allergy.
**To help prevent the oxidation of the copper, keep your hands dry by removing the ring when you go to wash your hands and dry your hands thoroughly. You may also apply a thin layer of nail polish to the inside of the ring to help prevent the discoloration for a while. This coating will wear out and will need to be reapplied.
